Welcome to Booker T. Washington Elementary!
Thank you for visiting Booker T. Washington’s web page! Our BTW family works hard each day to provide equitable educational opportunities to our students through collaborative partnerships with families, staff, and community members.
Our goal is to continue striving for educational excellence through innovation and to help each of our children succeed in all areas-academic, behavioral, social, and emotional. Our purpose is to educate and support the whole child.
This year, the staff and students at Booker T. Washington will continue to strive for success using the Leader in Me Framework. Leader in Me provides a unique approach to integrating highly effective practices throughout a school’s culture. Instead of focusing on academic measures alone, Leader in Me embodies a holistic approach to education, redefining how schools measure success. This approach empowers educators with effective practices and tools to:
- teach LEADERSHIP to every student,
- create a CULTURE of student empowerment,
- and align systems to drive results in ACADEMICS.
Within this framework, this year our staff and students will be using new, evidence-based curriculum materials in reading and mathematics. These materials were piloted last year across Capital schools and chosen for implementation based on feedback from multiple stakeholders. More information on Leader in Me and curriculum will be shared throughout the year.
Our BTW family includes our student families outside of school as well. Parents are a child’s first teachers, and your involvement is critical to their success. We encourage families to be involved by asking your child what they have learned each day, by setting aside time and a quiet space for learning at home, and by participating school activities including PTO and volunteer opportunities when you can.
We thank you for your interest in Booker T. Washington Elementary School. Should you have further questions or concerns about our school, please call us at 302-672-1900 or email me at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Mrs. LaWanda Burgoyne
