Our AMAZING Counselor…
Mrs. Yatskevich (Mrs. Y.)
Welcome to the Counselor's Corner!
Booker T. Washington Elementary School is made up of a dedicated family of teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, support staff, and administrators who are all dedicated to enhancing every student's physical, mental, and social well-being. As our school counselor, it is my focus to provide a comprehensive guidance program. The BTW guidance curriculum is made up of classroom lessons that include topics such as, bucket filling (kindness), developing a growth mindset, character development, bullying prevention, career exploration and so much more. BTW realizes it is essential to provide developmentally appropriate activities that include multiple methods of educating and learning so that every student can succeed. The school counseling program will advocate for every student by promoting respect, discussion, discovery, and inclusion with the intent that every child will continue to progress in the domains of academic, career, and social emotional development. Along with regularly scheduled classroom guidance lessons in all grades, the counseling program includes the opportunity for small group, topic focused sessions, as well as, individual counseling sessions. As the school counselor, I also serve as coordinator of our student-to-student mentoring program, Senator Summit, and our adult-to-student mentoring program through Connecting Generations. I also serve as our school's coordinator of the Backpack Program which is sponsored by the Food Bank of Delaware. I am also available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have with regards to your child(ren).
